Sir Peter Blake RA

Peter Blake was born in 1932 in Dartford, England and studied at Gravesend Technical College and School of Art. He loved all aspects of his study and his work covers a wide spectrum of media – engraving printmaking, photography, sculpture, graphics and collage.

He is most famous for his design of the Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Heats Club Band album cover in 1967 but was already a key member of the 60s burgeoning Pop Art movement. His paintings from this time include imagery from advertisements, music hall entertainment and wrestlers, often featuring collaged elements.

Blake has painted prolifically all his life and has made important contributions to contemporary art for every decade since the 1960s, even keeping the tradition of album covers with Oasis’s Stop the Clocks in 2006.

Over the past few years he has published numerous screenprints and several portfolios of images which have become highly collectable including ‘Sources of Pop Art,’ ‘The Alphabet’ and ‘The Venice Suite’. Peter Blake’s work continues to attract considerable attention from the media and from art lovers around the world and he is widely regarded as one of Britain’s foremost artists.

Peter Blake lives in London and continues to work from his studio in Hammersmith.
