'My predominant interests lie
in a strong involvement with colour, in the qualities
of paint application and in spaces and forms created
on the surface of the canvas.
My work is about the process of
creating a painting; my engagement with my materials,
the beauty of colour, the layering of mark making
and a study into the passage of time through the
history of making a painting. Chance occurrences
that happen while painting, the traces of lines
and marks, the freedom of brushstrokes and the
random blurring of paint - all these elements
work alongside the considered placement of colour
and contribute to the creation of my paintings
and the narratives which they thereby create.
My aim is to achieve a play of balance, depth
and surface texture to create rich and inviting
paintings.'
