Maggie graduated from Bristol
Polytechnic in 1990 with a first class B.Ed (Hons)
degree in Fine Art. Her work explores the dichotomies
that can occur in painting, for example, the tension
between perfection and something flawed. There
are elements that relate to the female figure
as well as references to popular culture. The
titles of her works are often taken from song
lyrics, as music is an important influence to
her.
Colour is a major theme for Maggie
and her interest is in the unexpected and unusual
juxtaposition of colour. 'It is important for
the colour to achieve a luminosity which approaches
the sublime.'
Maggie has exhibited widely since
1992 including solo exhibitions at Bristol Old
Vic 1993 and Canalot Studios, London in 1992.
In 2000 she was a prize winner at the Royal West
of England Academy where she exhibits regularly
in the annual Autumn Exhibitions. She is currently
a candidate to become an RWA Academician.
